Yeah, but features or collaborations work differently tho. You can get a contractual agreement with the other artist you're working with or preparing to work with. But as far as a record label and yourself, no they don't have nothing to do with that in regards to features. Hence why artist charge or have a starting fee for collabs.

No brother, your wrong, I know this for a fact. It can be stated in the contract that an artist can't do features or session work even without permission, or it can be stated that it can as long as it don't get in the way of their contractual obligations. There's also a standard clause in most contracts like that that say upon signing it you can't have already signed something that would go against the terms of the contract you are about to sign. There's also certain exclusivity agreements sometimes put in place. I've drawn up several legal contracts before in the field so I know how it works. I get what your saying but it all depends on the contract to what you can do, there are variables.
