If new, the formatting is different for mac and windows. There's 1 type that you can use for both. Sorry been out the Porn HD came for a minute.

First off didn't know where to post this. Got a 4Terabyte seagate EHD and its not showing up on my macbook; its updated to the latest OS. Nothing I do is working.

Did you install the driver for the hard drive?

Does a driver need to be installed?

If it's in an enclosure, take it out. What you'll normally find is that the SATA card it's mounted to is defective. If you connect the physical drive directly to your Mac via a SATA cable, it should show up. If you don't have anything important on it, just try reformatting it.

If it powers up but you don't hear anything moving or beeping inside it's probably a dud.Get your money back ASAP.
hmmm didn't hear shyt tbh. and yea on that tomorrow

Should have partitioned that bytch into if you didn't.
I can't even get it to show up on disk utility, so i can't mount, erase or partition.

dnt wanna tamper with it and mess up warranties or returns.

no additional traditional drivers are needed but the website has a "paragon" driver to "Take advantage of read and write access without having to reformat your external drives, both on Windows and macOS." that did nothing but make this:

what would you recommend? it came with a usb type and my mac uses usc (got a convertor)

That might be the problem. Newer Macs (post 2012) don't like 3rd party adapters. Even if the adapter is Apple Certified it may not work due to how Apple manufactures main boards. Does your external use a mini-USB connector? If so, then you may need a mini-USB to USB-C cable and bypass a converter altogether.

It’s a usb 3 connector and tbh I don’t feel like doing all that and spending the extra bred for sum that shld be simple.
On the top left where it says View, click it and make sure it's on show all devices.
Did that already, nothing happened so I switched it off. Imma tlk to Apple tech support about suggestions for external choices.

You already spent extra bread when you bought a Mac instead of a PC. You editing music/video?

Anyhow, try Finder>>Preferences>>Sidebar, select 'External disks' under 'Locations'.
