Let's bring it back to that play: what was the right play? In the past, what the defender did was absolutely considered the right play. What do you teach future defensive players to do in that situation?

I wouldn't be surprised if they (Goodell) enforces some "two hand touch" type rule on a play like that in the future

I missed most of yesterday's games, but that is a terrible call. :damn:

I've come to accept that the NFL will never be the same again. This is where the downward spiral begins and it will only get worse. :manny:

It's a shytty call because we grew up on something else, but on that hit Davis was concussed, so you see why they're doing it.

NEW ERA
They have to "pussify" the league for legal reasons. The same former players vilifying Goodell and the league are the same players sitting in offices with their attorneys filling out lawsuits claiming "the NFL didn't do enough to protect me from the health risks and dangers". Truthfully, it's hypocrisy in its essence.

First and foremost, the NFL is a business and a business will always act in its own best interest before the interest of its employees. While there might be a genuine regard for the health of players, the NFL cares more about protecting itself from finance crippling lawsuits then the safety of their players. Again though, that doesn't mean they don't care about the players.

every receiver is defenseless

This is what I have the biggest problem with.

If a receiver is in the process of making a catch, you have to be allowed to hit him.

Even if you want to argue that the hit last night was to the head, on the field they called "Hit on a defenseless receiver"

Yep, it had nothing to do with a shot to the head.

49ers got one a week before on Hernandez and it was the same thing, any hit when the guy is in the air, they're calling him defenseless

Have you watched a single fukking game this year? Textbook tackles and hits have been called hits on defenseless receiver. Over and over again. It's bullshyt

I should ask you the same question...I've seen plenty of hits on guys this year where they've stopped a completion and there was no penalty...the common thread is it was absolutely clear that there was no contact to the head.

They always announce it as a hit on the defenseless receiver. It's the hits to the head that draw penalties. I'm not sure that was a hit to the head, so it may be a bad call, but the flags were thrown cuz they thought it was.

Didn't he get fined for this hit too?
