The eagles had narrow down free-agent linebackers down to Jamie Collins and Zach Brown. The scouting recommendation was Collins, while Schwartz wanted Brown. Roseman went with the latter, sources said. Collins, meanwhile, is having an All-Pro-caliber season for the Patriots and Brown was released last month.

Chris Long’s exit from the Eagles during the offseason was widely considered by team sources to be hastened by Schwartz. Roseman, Pederson, and other decision-makers wanted the veteran defensive end to return in the final year of his contract, but Schwartz wouldn’t guarantee the 34-year-old a role similar to the one he had previously, and Long, who was coming off arguably his best season in five years, retired in May.

Roseman came calling in September, however, after defensive tackle Malik Jackson suffered a season-ending foot injury, sources said. Long’s return to the edge would allow defensive end Brandon Graham to move inside and give the Eagles the same third-down line -- with Fletcher Cox also inside and Derek Barnett on the opposite end -- as in the Super Bowl season.

Long spent two to three weeks working himself back into football shape. Roseman wanted him back, and a return appeared imminent. But after a conversation with Schwartz, in which Long was told to prepare for a lesser role, he relayed to the team that he would stay retired, sources said

Damn Gym Shorts got alot of pull :ohhh:

I don't think he can out veto Howie by himself, I know Doug probably backed him up and Howie trusted them due to success in the past . But with how bad this season may go,

I really believe Howie is not gonna let them away there decisions going forward

I'm not over reacting to Wentz. Patriots Defense is really good and the eagles had no homerun receiving threat and they didnt have their best running back out there.

They needed to play near perfect on offense to win this.

Wentz had chances to tie this game and he shyt the bed. Overthrows and missed throws. Then the drops didnt help either.

And

Doug was very conservative in his gameplan in a game he couldnt afford to be. It was inexplicable. I didnt see any screens and gadgets that I was expecting to see.

On to Seattle at home, where we finna get destroyed cause their offense is real.

The Recievers are garbage and the play calling is stale. Wentz is just...smh... Just fire the entire offense into outer space. I've ran out of excuses for everyone on that side of the ball. And quiet as its kept, Schwartz has been doing his job as a defensive coordinator lately. Mixing and matching, adjusting his scheme to make shyt work....and Mills and Darby slander will not be tolerated for this week at least. Russell and the Hawks are going to bend us over a barrel. Thank goodness the NFL had the foresight to move that to 1pm.
