didnt get much snaps until lockett got hurt in the 4th. then he got 2 game changing first downs in the 4th/OT. im still laughing at how this team really thought they were too good to give gordon a shot.
I just don't understand their approach to the receiver position in general:
Taking Alshon 2.0 in JJAW in the draft. I was fine with it at the time. And it would have made sense if they were planning to move on from Alshon after this year, since he's approaching 30-years old and is due a lot of money. But then Howie goes and guarantees Alshon's contract for the next year. So next year they'll have a 30-year old Alshon, who may already be on the decline but they can't move on from and they're paying a lot of money to, and a 2nd-round rookie who's not going to see the field ahead of him.
And there's the lack of any move to add a speed receiver when it became clear as far back as Week 5, against the Vikings, just how dependent the passing game was on the ability of DeSean Jackson. They had to know around that same time that DJax's injury was more serious than was initially believed to be, and that he wasn't going to be 100% when he came back. But they still decided to depend entirely on his return. Now Carson has no one to throw to but a rookie running back and the tight ends because Alshon, Agholor, and Hollins are terrible.
For that matter, there's also Doug and Groh's weird ass decision not to play JJAW as the WR2 and see what they have in him even when it's become clear how much of a liability Mack Hollins is. Might as well see if Whiteside can surprise at this point.
And then Josh Gordon becomes available and actually makes it to them, and they
pass? I get that Gordon hasn't been great this year. But he's still better than Mack Hollins and could at least theoretically give them what their offense needs (a deep threat). If he doesn't work for whatever reason, they could move on with very little cost. But now he walks right to Seattle and will be ripping the Eagles secondary to shreds soon.
Finally, taking Jordan Matthews when what they need is a
deep threat. I'll grant that Matthews might be better than Agholor, but he still won't help anything because a slot receiver isn't the problem. The lack of speed is. Matthews won't help that.
