C'mon breh. Yea the expansion makes the ACC a premier basketball conference again (on paper), but the expansion was a reactionary move to expansion in the PAC 12, Big 10, SEC & Big East. Conference realignment, spurred by the revenue of BCS bowl games, is the reason that TV deal exists, even for a weak ass football conference like the ACC.

It sounds nice to say basketball is an important part of this equation, but in reality it's not

The first wave of expansion wasn't. That was to get an ACC Bowl Game.

And when they picked up Va Tech, BC, and Miami, those were the three best Big East Football schools available.

Yea every expansion the ACC has made has been with football in mind. They even fukked up their divisions so that you'd possibly see an ACC Championship game of FSU vs. MIA every yr & STILL ain't got that matchup :laff:

As for the new teams, Pittsburgh & Syracuse ain't football powerhouses or in major markets so this deal will fail too...nobody is clamoring for more ACC football breh, there's no demand for sub par football from the ACC in the South or anywhere else.

Plenty of people are bringing up the basketball schools in here as a reason for how much the deal was. It's minor in comparison to what football means.

The deal is the lowest among the major football conferences. Yall in here acting like this is a major blockbuster deal. You think ESPN should have been able to air ACC football and basketball for free? ESPN does not want CBS or FOX airing major college sports at all. Both CBS and FOX would have loved to have that ACC contract. Its amazing how that point is lost on so many of yall.

Why would they air it for free? :childplease: Who even offered that as a solution? I give credit to ACC Comissioner John Swofford swindling ESPN out of 3 billion plus. It's a good move for the ACC that they could even fetch that type of money. I'm :laff: @ ESPN giving your bum ass conference that type of dough when that deal shouldnt have even been half that

what other network is going to pay 3½ billion dollars to air programming that brings in 1.7 ratings for its marquee broadcast of the year? numbers like that will get you the axe, not a mid 10 figure contract. espn is willing to overpay because it knows live sports broadcasts are the only thing keeping that network in business. if it wasnt for live sports, id have dumped cable YEARS ago, and so would many, many others. deals like this are why cable bills keep going up

If ESPN offered half that then the ACC would have went to FOX or CBS, ESPN DOES NOT WANT THAT. They are overpaying for every deal they make because they want to have a monopoly on big time college sports.

I know im arguing with a UGA fan but i didnt think the point would be so hard to understand.

ESPN is about to have to overpay AGAIN on their contract with the SEC & they're only 2 yrs into this 15 yr contract. Contrary to the BS you made up, ESPN could not have a monopoly on college football, even if they wanted to. That's why the SEC is on CBS & ESPN at the SAME DAMN TIME :krs:

Same reason the ACC is on Jefferson Pilot Sports & ESPN. ESPN could have low balled & got a better deal with respect to the weak brand of football being played in the ACC right now. Wasn't nobody else coming with damn near 4 billion for the right to watch NC State & Virginia play in primetime tv. It was a bad deal, just admit it & stop crying

Yeah because one game a week on CBS and one game a week on JP is the same as having the entire contract go to CBS or FOX. :snoop:

Here is an article about FOX airing prime time games on their main network. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...looking-to-elbow-their-way-into-the-spotlight

CBS has a college sports channel they have been trying to fill with decent games for years and have stated they want to air more games.

We actually have an ESPN insider who posts on the GT boards who talks about this sh*t all the time. If you doubt his validity register on gojackets and talk to him yourself.

Bruh you a clown, you said the deal should have been half that. Seriously? So while every other conference has their teams earning over 20 million a year as it is the new ACC contract should have had the schools earning 8 each? You think the ACC would have signed that deal?
