Yahoo Sportstacular you tell it your favorite teams and push the icon and it jumps in and shows you the scores. double press home and you can switch songs without going into the music app.

even when i had Android on my main phone i wasn't using those widgets primary because they're a waste of battery life. the only widgets i really used after it came down to it was Calendar and Calculator.

i wish people would quit acting like widgets add functionality. they're just really scaled back versions of the main app that waste battery life updating when you aren't using the apps updating themselves.

half the features Android stans brag about are cool features to show off to simple minded users that don't have smart phones and would be impressed by them but become impractical in day to day use.

to me the only real things Android has on iPhone are cut and paste are light years better on Android. you can download songs and files over the air on the phone and plug up to a computer and some of the phones have larger screens. when Google brought Chrome and the Turn-by-Turn Google Maps over it was a wrap for me.

personally Android and iOS neither are really better than the other. they both have the same basic functionality. i just like that iOS can sync with the Nike+ sensor i use on the treadmill and with my Fitbit and the native MP3 player properly manages my playlist like i like.

This.
Widgets were a waste of battery life.
I hated having them on my home screen because their design was done horribly.
I found no need for widgets eventually on my android run.
I glad that apple does not have widgets.
There is nothing wrong with going in and out of an app.
Now cut and paste and downloading files....Android has that down pat.
As for theme customization.
I was designing my own widgets and themes to suit my needs.
Just because you have a bunch of on-going widgets on your screen does not make it much more useable, especially when the phone battery life is garbage to begin with.
Minmal is best.
I think that Windows mobile 8 design is a good mobile os that captures iOS minimal steeze with it's tile design and Android widgets with it's live tiles.

Y'all nikkas act like widgets is the only thing that seperates android from the iPhone. Let's talk about how we can attach and share things from almost any app unlike the iPhone. How about being able to have the choice to launch apps as your default, unlike the iPhone. Let's break this down further.

1. Can browse and store files within the phones memory. Or external memory.
4. Can side load almost any app without the need to root or jailbreak.
6. Can actually download files not on a app store, access them and use them.

Y'all iPhone cats are delusional, androids now have zero lag and phones with excellent build quality. There is no reason to remain ignorant.
those are things that are clearly better than iOS

2. Can change keyboards if you wished.
3. Can DRAMATICALLY change the interface to what ever you can think of. Like so: http://mycolorscreen.com
4. Can emulate games and operating systems NATIVELY.
5. Can tell you how to get home, what restaurant are nearby, if your items have been shipped/delivered, when the bus/train/plan is going to arrive and departure...ect. Without even asking for the info...NATIVELY.
7. YouTube, Gmail, Chrome, Maps, Google Voice are all native. Meaning better integration for all those apps on any android phone.
8. Can use a ps3 or Xbox controller for most games
9. Can use flash and html 5
10. NFC
most of these things are window dressings. changing a user interface or keyboard. meh i really care about the functionality not the window dressings on it.

playing games on a cell phone especially games that need controllers? pass. if you wanna game on the go there are better devices for that.

Google services being integrated is irrelevant to me. they can be used on an iPhone just the same. in fact i find it better to go into my Google Voice app and have the text messages and whatnot located in there vs having them all pooled together and having my phone ask me every call do you wanna use Google voice to make this call or not.

as for the phone giving directions and all that i got the Google Maps on my iPhone and i actually prefer the iOS version to the Android version. its not that big of a deal that the app has to be downloaded vs it being on the phone already. i will admit that viewing Youtube videos in browser vs having them launch in the native media player taking away the browser is a plus for Android.

Flash is outdated most websites worth a damn support HTML 5 which the iPhone does. as for NFC when i had the EVO LTE as my main phone i never used it and never planned to.

in closing most of the things and features you're boasting about are window dressings and mostly cosmetic. almost none of it is functionality present on Android that's not present on iOS because for the most part you can do the same things on either phone. get the same apps from the same creators on either phone. outside of downloading and extracting files over the air on the phone and unofficial apps natively i'm drawing a blank on what you can do on one and not the other.

the battery life issue is something that has been addressed years ago already.

As for the cat who noticed the difference between the 3gs and 4. Thanks for contradicting yourself

what can you do in terms of real world functionality not counting unauthorized apps natively and over the air downloading of files on Android that can't be done on an iPhone?

i'm not arguing that Android is better or worse than an iPhone. i'm saying the two are basically the same if you look at what functionality you get on either device.

the reason i have an iPhone is because it has integrated control on the treadmill at my gym with a dock that charges it on there. it also syncs up to the Nike sensors in my shoes and my fitbit sensor and on its own it properly manages my smart playlist i've used on iTunes and on other iPods for years.

i can't tell you how many Android users i see at the gym pull out an iPod and use it. i used to carry both and got tired of it. why should i carry two devices anyway when one clearly can't do everything i need and want but there's a device on the market that does?

when an Android phone can properly sync up with my Nike+ sensor in my shoes and can dock on my gym's equipment that's configured for iPods holla at me and i'll go back to Android.

Breh, why not get a blackberry ? It has more "functionality" than most phones... If that's the case. Having native support is not merely cosmetic. Having a keyboard of your preference is functionality. Having better info, shorcuts and widgets on your on custom home screen to speed up simple task such as turning on your flashlight or reading an email is functionality. Being able to use 3rd party controllers and such is functionality. Having the choice between flash and HTML 5 is functionality because when it comes down to it, every site don't support HTML 5 like most streaming sites. Having the choice to do the things or not is the main issue. Apple does not give you the choice for customization. A phone is your most used device, if you can't customize the way you want then you are moving backwards.

Let's stop talking like all widgets are the same. Of course, the more it has to refresh, the more effect is has on the battery life. But something like a music player widget isn't gonna affect the battery. Something like a weather widget that doesn't update that frequently (if you set it that way) isn't gonna have a great effect the battery.

It's weird that they're trying to incorporate more of iOS into OS X when they add something like Launchpad to OS X(which is useless for that) but not add it to iOS. They could use something to bring apps up instead of just having them all on the damn homescreen

wow we knocked off the 5 seconds it takes off opening an app to have a widget and how much battery life did that cost us?

granted the Android keyboard is better than the iPhones but having your choice of Keyboards? i don't use Swype and never liked it so i was just using the stock one anyway.

you're reading full emails on small widgets? at best you're previewing them and you still have to open the stock app to view them fully.

why would i use a controller to play cellphone style games like Angry Birds? if the game is complex enough to need a PS3 controller its too complex to be played on a cell phone anyway.

all the sites i go to when i look at videos on the iPhone they work so i have no complaints about Flash which they ended up pulling from Android anyway.

yall are gushing about customization that even when i had Android i didn't care to use. why would i miss them now? i never even changed the wallpaper on my iPhone and i've had it for months and on my Android phones i left whatever stock wall paper on there as well.

i'm saying this as an Android user that used Android for years. when i switched to iOS in terms of functionality (and by that i mean the ability to do one thing on one device that you can't on the other) i haven't really lost anything noteworthy. i'm not a person that's hyper excited to play around with how things look though i'm more concerned with what they do.

If i went to Blackberry i'd be back to carrying two devices again which is why i switched from Android to iPhone. i own an iPhone because its one device that does pretty much everything i want my phone to do. its not the best at everything but its good enough at all of them so that i have no major complaints and it actually does things my Android phone didn't do mainly related to the gym but still.

i'm not confused about either of these OS being better than the other one is just better for me.

features that are useless to you. maybe you don't use Nike+ sensors to track your workouts but i do and an Android phone doesn't work with them.

maybe your gym has equipment that docks and charges and integrates your Android phone into the equipment but mine doesn't. i sit my iPhone in the dock on the equipment made for it and plug my headphones into the gym equipment and i don't have to worry about dropping it switching songs or picking it back up in the middle of a run. the controls are large and on the treadmill or bike or whatever and easy to use while running.

maybe you don't do that stuff but trying to sell people on Android being so much better than iOS when the two have mostly the same apps and do the same things is silly.

A small useless widget :wtf:

breh that's my email widget on my lock screen, I can customize it anyway I want. And I'm not.talking about games like angry birds, I can hook up most fps and platformers or ps1, SNES to a controller and play them correctly. Who would not want to do that? And we in the arcadium breh, chances are most nikkas here would agree. I could still use the screen if I wanted but then again there goes that choice thing I was talking about. I could careless about hooking my shoes up to Nike plus :dead: there are apps that do the same shyt without that extra shyt.

THE BIG BAD WESTSIDE
Coming from iOS to Android ...

iphones.jpg

Look at that ugly shyt. Icons and icons. Change that shyt up. Put a music player on there or something. fukk I think the default icons may even still be the same after all these years :russ:

Nah but seriously, if people enjoy iOS and like the simplicity of it. Nice for them. But it's not better than Android. The shyt I've been doing with my GS3 is just :wow:. You can't beat the customization and the options.

Get out now. It's worth it.

Well damn Apple has no shame. shyt looks the same every year
