Spence: Thurman or Porter - Same Result, Man Down!
Posted by: Carlos Boogs on 6/24/2015

By Carlos Boogs

Welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14KOs) is receiving a big push from WBC/WBA/WBO champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather is scheduled to return on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and he wants Spence to be showcased on the undercard. Mayweather wants him to face either WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman or former beltholder Shawn Porter.

Mayweather is even willing to vacate one of his world titles, so Spence could face either Porter or Thurman for the vacant belt.

Spence has no preference between the two, because he's confident the end result will be exactly the same.

"It's the same [whether it's Thurman or Porter], it's the same result...man down," Spence said.

Spence was in action on Saturday at the MGM Grand, where he easily stopped Phil Lo Greco in three rounds. The main event featured Porter winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Adrien Broner.

If Porter accepts the challenge, Spence does not anticipate any issues in dealing with him.

"I feel like I'm stronger than Shawn...faster, smarter - and I throw way more punches than Adrien Broner...no disrespect to him. I feel like he won't get on the inside with me and we won't be wrestling, because I'll use a lot of angles and side-step him," Spence said.

I think he could beat Porter but it's too soon imo.....on the other hand who am I to tell breh what to do, go be great :obama:

That's how I feel. He could probably beat Porter, but the young man needs to slow down and take his time. No way his handlers lets him get near Thurman at this point.

some yall put thurman on toooooooooooooo high of a pedestal at 147, especially after the guerrero win, even though he didn't look all that impressive to me.

being a decorated amateur and going to the olympics, how much fukking experience do you need to be ready for a title shot lol. either he's ready or not, i actually like spence chances against thurman though.

So you'd put a young inexperienced fighter in with a more experienced young fighter that's fought way better comp, faced adversity & is probably the biggest puncher in the division? Ok

Young? He's 25 and Kool Keith is 26.

Floyd beat Genaro Hernandez in his 18th professional fight to become Champion...he was 21. Spence is older and has the same amount of fights.

I would put Spence in with Thurman if Spence wants it and his team believes in his talent.

I thought Spence said he was 23 during his interview Saturday. Even so my point stands. He hasn't even fought someone on Diego Chaves level yet people want him to get in the ring with Thurman. A fight with Thurman could ruin him.

R. Kelly can co-sign this......age ain't nothing but a number. E Money Bags is ready for whoever and I agree with @Willy Waffle, I think we put One Time too high on the pedestal and if he can be touched by Ghost then E Money Bags can molest him, style-wise.

A fight with Thurman 3 years from now can ruin him, however, a loss right now can be easy to bounce back from considering his age. But I see your point breh.

Not only ruin him from a professional standpoint but more importantly from a physical one. You put an inexperienced pro like Spence in there with a Porter or Thurman before he's ready & that could ruin him mentally with his confidence or from physically taking a beating from those fighters. He needs to be matched against someone that'll give him some adversity but not possibly overmatch him. I told people after One Time fought Ghost that his chin would be ruined & in his next fight he gets dropped & nearly stopped from a non puncher.
