I've been hearing this "rap music is a negative influence on our youth" for a good 25-30 years now. And for the most part it's just as much bullsh!t now as it was then. The speaker really has a 'the jews are out to get us" mentality. I do not believe that. I do believe they don't give a fukk if the entertainment industry does have a negative impact on black youth or not, as long as they make money. But I don't believe they make moves to intentionally destroy or hurt our community. The only color they are concerned about is green.

As was true 25 years ago, these negative images you see were not created by rap music. Good old fashioned street violence, drug dealing and drug usage PRECEDES the creation of rap music by many years. The real problem we have here is a LACK OF PARENTING. If you don't do your job as a parent, then maybe a stranger on the radio or on television will have a great influence on your children. Too many parents today are letting the radio, tv, and the streets raise their children. And when they end up fukkin up, blame rappers. The speaker was talking extensively about Jay-Z, obviously. I also noticed that he left out a major factor in Jay's life, that being the desertion of the family by his father. Hmmm, if he stuck around, maybe Jay doesn't end up being a drug dealer?

You also have to ask yourself this - being that WHITE PEOPLE are the MAJOR PURCHASERS of rap music, why aren't they having the same problems?

I see ignorant posts like this and really understand how clueless some of my people are about the complexities of our collective condition.

You can label it ignorant if that makes you feel smart but the fact is our biggest problem is a lack of guidance, NOT rap music. Of course its easier to blame rappers though because the majority of them are black men, Americas punching bag.

And since you agree with this, you must also feel that if rap music disappeared tomorrow, that our community would dramatically change for the better? How stupid is that.

I agree, rap is NOT our biggest problem, and rappers are blamed because they SHOULD be.

why should we give Black men who are products of Black communities, a pass for making music that glorifies the destruction of Black communities?

don't equate these rappers with Black men, because all Black men aren't making music or media that's destructive to Black minds, these rappers are paid by white people to rap about selling drugs to Black people, rap about disrespecting Black women, rap about murdering Black men, and the best you nikkas can say is "it's just entertainment, what about movies that have murder in them"

I'll have to find it, but I remember seeing an interview with boosie being straight up about his chains. Preface:

Yeah... so in the interview, he said something like "I really don't like wearing all these chains :dahell: them shyts hurt my fukking neck :why: but... I gotta give off that flashy vibe. You know, where nikkas look and think 'damn, he shining, let me see what he's talking bout :ohhh:' and once you hear my music, I got you :win:"

I agree with you that a lot of it is negative, but is our community a reflection of hip hop, or are rappers talking about what they see and or have experienced in the hood? Again, this behavior PRECEDES rap. Go check out some blacksploitation movies. I'm just sick of this attitude of "jews/whitey are out to get us". Did they not get behind Red Tails because they didn't want to show blacks in a positive light, or because they thought that type of movie wouldn't make that much money? The fact is Talib Kweli, Common, and Dead Prez put together will NEVER sell as much as Lil Wayne. He's looking at it like their intent is to bring down blacks. I see their goal as whatever will bring in the most money. Not saying they really care if it harms the community, its just that's not the main goal.
