For a region without a huge black population, the Bay is pretty talented. Sage The Gemini drops like 2 mainstream HITS per year, E40 is still relevant, Jidenna had a hit with "classic man", Kehlani is getting popular, etc...

Last platinum album was Too Short in 96. Getting It.
Excluding Pac and Hammer, I think only 40 and Luniz went platinum. That's two plaques. So the Bay never had a history of producing platinum albums. So it's an irrelevant question really.
