Actually the Olympics tend to fukk over the cities where the games are played. Athens in '04 still hasn't recovered financially from that. Montreal had the Olympics in '76 and just finished paying off their debt for Olympic Stadium 5 years ago and that shyt is a dump now. That beautiful Bird Nest stadium that Beijing had in '08? That shyt collects dust now. All they get is the prestige of having the Olympics, 2 weeks of nonstop attention and tourism increase, and then a huge ass bill after it's over that they can't pay without bankrupting the town.

Hosting the Olympics is equivalent to you funding Barack Obama's inauguration party.

Reason why i didnt want the Olympics in the 1st place. Especially when it comes to anything to do with the nation as a whole, they already done fukked up & overspent by a good £500-600m on the Millenium Dome and Wembley in the last 15 years, cant wait to see how they fukked this up as well :sadcam:

they do control it to an extent. cuz cats like d-rose and d12 are guarunteed to make the roster. and even if they dont wanna play in the summer, you best believe they will be playing due to contractual obligations with these shoe companies. like I said, when u getting 9 figure shoe deals, u basically waive your rights to take summers off.

They don't though. If Dwight Howard wants to de-commit from Olympic competition, Adidas can't do shyt about that, just like how Adidas couldn't do shyt when Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan weren't interested in playing in the Olympics anymore. Colangelo demands a full-time commitment, so he knows early on whether you have a shot at the team. Blake Griffin could probably major loot for Nike this summer, but if Colangelo and Ronzone would rather have someone else instead of him on the team, the sneaker companies just gotta deal with it. As we've seen with the construction of the team, not everyone is there to sell merchandise.

look duncan is :flabbynsick: and k-love ain't an internationally known player yet. adiddas ain't worried about their exposure right now.

drose and d12 are adiddas poster children. they got the most lucrative shoe deals. and thats who adiddas has been tryin to put out there to the international market. therefore adiddas owns them.

Love isn't on Adidas. You're losing sight of what I'm trying to say.

And if for some reason Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard decided that they didn't want to partake in International competition, what's Adidas gonna do? Rip up their contract? I'm sure Nike would be glad to hear that.

:beli:

Tim wasn't :flabbynsick: in 08. He just finished putting up 19/112 that year.

But he stopped doing international games after 04 because he didn't want to do it anymore.

Shoe companies can't force players to play.

And the reason Rose and Howard are guarantees are because they 2 of the best players in the league. Howard's the best center and Rose was the reigning MVP and played with the national team in 2010. Their shoe deals have nothing to do with them being picked.

I'll never understand people being cool with corporations making money off of these people's bodies...but not being OK with the people themselves making money off their own bodies.

Even responses like "don't they make enough" are ridiculous. Who are you to say how much money someone can make, off of their own bodies? All cause older nikkas didn't have the foresight (or simply didn't want) to think about it like these young cats are.
