Lets see.
Increase equality = decrease poverty = less freedom = instability in the markets = leads to socialism or possibly a malfunctioning form of communism

:hula:

Decrease equality = Increase poverty = more freedom = more stability = capitalism

There's no right answer, but I believe intellectual content should be pushed more heavily within the black community. Especially fundamental knowledge about how the markets work(supply & demand), financial literacy ( saving, not copping J's), how to start / manage private enterprise(businesses) and voting becoming solidified political force, not to be messed with like the Jewish population.

Honestly, these concepts still go over my head because it never addresses our core problems. No one with someone's foot on their neck says I wish I could run a business or own a house or vote for Sen. Lieberman. They want "skills" that will help them improve their life, they know something is missing, they just don't know what.

I use to feel the same way. I used to tutor white kids who I felt had life all figured out...they did not, what helped them avoid the "trap" of poverty is they learned self-control, discipline, and dedication. These are the "skills" you need to control your destiny. This is what they are making sure our bright young men and women never develop, its a psychological warfare which is the best weapon against any enemy.

We might never become millionaires, but most of us Coli folks will never suffer the kind of poverty our brethren deal with in the ghettos and prisons because we know what we need to beat the odds.

Exactly! This is what we're up against.

Has there ever been a civilization devoid of poverty? If not, where does the idea come from that we can rid ourselves of it? :dwillhuh:

No, poverty will always exist, but it shouldn't be systematically placed upon a certain community due to the color of their skin.

It all comes down to marriage.

Married people are less likely to be broke. Marriage that black women have no use for anymore.
They prefer pop out kids and get benefits from the white man.

The biggest minority on the planet is the individual. Much of what people clutch onto in terms of perceived glass ceilings based on cultural boundaries we only harbor due to our own insecurity, we all want to either feel important or have an excuse not to be important. For every example OP has of community failure I can give one of someone from the same community coming up. There will just be a certain point in every person's life at which they realize they will have to make key choices which will determine our place in society, and in this society our place is largely based on class, which is largely based on education and wealth.

Eventually people like OP will have to stop being self hating and realize all folks have it tough out here. There is no evidence that black people as a whole in America have any collective inability to succeed in America.

I always look back to what Obama did at Morehouse, thats what we cant accept. Were doing fine for ourselves but everyone wants to get together and tell us how to handle business, from OP to Obama to Bill OReilly to Don Lemon. Enough.

Hmm, it appears that you are more psychologically invested in 'our' community than I am. The fact that you have rosy tinted glasses on, claiming there isn't a problem that needs to be tackled -- proves that your self-esteem is an extension of the black community. You cannot even fathom that there is a real problem, because then you feel that I'm somehow attacking you, and others with the same pigmentation. Throwing out ludicrous assumptions that I'm experiencing self-hate? Just to get your point across is pretty low, my brother.

:skip:

Open your eyes. Lots of people who are black/minority have succeeded, but my thread is about how we can break down the numerous road blocks that have been put in place to stop so many of our brethren from reaching their full potential.
