You never heard of xbox tax?
I’m just looking to see all these rational minded people making the case that one company ceasing making hardware leaving effectively a single company making high end home consoles is great for the industry and consumers.

When has a single company dominating a particular field ever lead to better conditions for anyone except that company? In fact it pretty much almost always leads to a worse future.

Fuq Engadget, but they may be right. Microsoft treats all new endeavors like a venture capitalist: Throw a ton of cash at it initially, then when it fails to show short term success, bail on it (Except in the most messy way). Microsoft hasn't made any real investments in their console business since 2013. They seem to be bailing on Surface already too. Hell Microsoft has bailed on Windows Mixed Reality despite a massive government contract for Hololens 2. Satya Nadella just isn't interested in making hardware.

The reality is the same crowd that previously said Microsoft should straight up just exit the gaming business is the same crowd now calling for them to become a third party because they realize that with Activision Blizzard and ZeniMax Microsoft carries some relevancy to the industry as a whole.

Suddenly these people who previously just wanted them gone are concerned about the most valuable company in the world making money and not losing it on hardware. In reality if they wanna burn cash trying to turn Xbox around that doesn’t hurt anybody or even show a noticeable blip on their balance sheet.

That's not stanning, that straight gaslighting. Telling Xbox console owners that they will benefit from Microsoft porting first party games over to PS5 is like a wife telling her husband that her sleeping with other men will benefit him, due to the extra sexual experience she gains.
