Honestly, this was a way better finale than the one Power had. 
Theres no guarantee that they would have been able to do that. Daniels said that Star would get a 2 hour finale and fans are still waiting on that a year later.

The latter more than likely. They only have 10 days left of filming and can condense it down even more if needed. Fox might as well let them do it since it was their flagship show at point in time.
If CW is doing it for Supernatural even with one of the actors being cast lead for the Walker Texas Ranger reboot, then Fox should do it for Empire as well.

Even they admitted that his presence has been missed and wanted him back. Dude really fukked over the show and a lot of people by pulling the stunt that he did. Dude is mad talented even with the dumb shyt that he did.
I know they added Mario to the cast to help replace Jussie’s vocal performances, but it wasn’t the same.
Not gonna lie though, some of the tracks this season were fire and their rendition of Solid was

I'm at season five on a rewatch. This show had a limited time to be good/great. It should have ended after season three, or two at the earliest. You can tell as time went on, they had no idea what they were doing each season and just kept adding things that were dramatic instead of keeping it simple.
I can see why people loved the show so much when it came out. Season one was simple. It had an interesting premise and it was a new spin on an old genre (hip hop soap opera). But then they decided to go all the way left with cartoonish nonsense. How many times did someone try taking Empire away from the Lyons? How many plots did they run through that meant nothing to the show as a whole? How many useless characters did they toss in there? The show lost its identity as soon as it gained one, and that's why people stopped paying attention.
The only thing about the show that didn't get worse every season was the music. That's the only redeeming quality. But I think once Jamal left, even that took a hit.
Gotta save up all those nickels and quarters.

There's this one storyline in season five that didn't make any sense to me at the time, and it still doesn't. Cookie's sister Candace is showing signs of being physically abused by her husband. The audience knows as much about what's really going on as the characters do, which is a mistake. The show even implies heavily that the husband is abusive. Then we find out that Candace's son is abusing her, and he's mentally ill. Cookie has to call the police to keep Candace's son from killing her, and he gets put in a mental institution. Candace is upset because Cookie got her son placed in the institution and hates her for it, even though she would have died if Cookie hadn't done anything. And at no point do they even hint that something is wrong with Candace's son. He's in two scenes acting normally. If anything, you get the feeling that he's scared of his father. Then in the third scene he's in, he's beating the hell out of Candace, Cookie, and their sister, screaming at them through the door trying to break in like he's Jack Nicholson or some shyt. What kind of

To be honest this was a show that ran 2 seasons too long. It should have ended on season 3.
