He shouldn’t be that hyped coming out, and if he is it’s strictly due to the social media era. There’s no comparison in impact imo. Long wing players who shoot 3s are a dime a dozen nowadays.
He’s not really like Durant imo besides their build. For one, Durant is 7 feet, and has/had a very quick first step. He (at least pre injury) is a lot more athletic than people give him credit for. Bates really doesn’t do anything special to me at this point.
Highlights on Bates are very deceiving because they only show his makes, now how many times he shoots which is damn near 30-35 attempts. He has a smooth game but I think his success is dependent on how much more he grows.
I do think he’s better than Bronny though. Not even close.
This doesn't mean anything to me as far as being a future NBA superstar.
Lebron, KD and others damn sure weren’t playing 15U consistently as sophomores. He’s been beating up on 13-15 year olds all summer.

Until these kids (Emoni, Dior Johnson) decide to get out of that baby age bracket in EYBL, it’ll be hard to project them. Anyone that’s a “future NBA superstar” should be playing up and at the very least look like they belong. Especially someone 6’7 with the skills he has.
