U.S. Marshalls arrest suspect in boxer Emanuel Augustus shooting; police say it was random

A 21-year-old man who is accused of shooting Emanuel Augustus, formerly known as Emanuel Burton, was arrested Thursday afternoon, Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Coppola said.
Augustus, 38, a well-known professional boxer, was shot in the head on Monday (Oct. 13) is facing life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Christopher Stills was arrested by U.S. Marshalls at 6985 Greenwell Street. Stills is scheduled to be transported from the Louisiana State Police headquarters to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, where he will be booked on charges of attempted second-degree murder, felon in possession of a handgun and illegal use of a weapon.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Louisiana Avenue, just blocks away from BREC's North 14th Street Boxing Facility in Baton Rouge. Augustus was known to train at the facility sometimes, according to reports.
Coppola said Thursday afternoon that Stills got to an argument with his cousin while riding in a car. Stills then got out of the car and fired several gunshots over the car out of anger. Coppola said Stills did not know Augustus and the incident was not a robbery, as nothing was taken from the boxer.
"I'm innocent," Stills said as detectives transported him to a police vehicle. "The investigators are horrible."
Augustus is known for being a journeyman and Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s toughest opponent, according to ESPN. Augustus is also known for his fight against Mickey Ward, which was Ring Magazine's 2001 fight of the year.
