working for jimmy iovine!!
this dude went diamond worldwide (you technical nikkas know what i mean) ..... twice.... and jimmy still wouldn't let him put out the eminem show without having a goofy first song
i really think em is still on his first contract. and unless he wanted to hold out, i don't think they went back and renegotiated anything
people don't realize how much these labels actually control you and your music. you can turn in a masterpiece and they can say, "nope, not putting it out.. write all pop hits or fukk you... oh and we also own all the throwaways you just made and will own all the new tracks you will make too.. now take this 25 cents an album and get out"
that's another reason i respect puffy.. he would let you out your contract, for a fee... these "other" ceo's give no fukks.. you can cry and complain all you want, to whoever you want.. if they don't see the benefit of doing what you'd like, it won't be done... period.. eminem to everyone
Exactly, and this is not to make an excuse, it's just honest. He is their golden goose, they bank on him, I don't know if I wanna say stay "afloat" but listen to 50 on smile...
"em made that company over a billion dollars and when he not around they saying foul shyt about him"
I've said before that the "hiatus" to me, at least initially was em basically getting fed up with the album schedule and the whole formula. I don't think he was ready to put out encore, he even says as much on track 1 of the album, and sounds like he's fukking around half the album sarcastically to say "this is what you wanted". Directly after that he kills his alter ego that made him such a big deal to try and distance himself from it and then he just disappears...
Of course all kinds of stupid shyt went on in between time, but he didn't come back until he put together Relapse and even was passionate enough about the project to have 2 discs ready. He comes with this raw ass horrorcore concept with some experimentation and it ends up doing the lowest numbers on a solo album that he's had since he had been signed (correct me if i'm wrong).
It seemed like letting him have a little more freedom with the concept and track list was the incentive to get him to actually come back and put out an album. Listen to the steve berman skit, it was funny but all that ranting and raving about "you know how many people lost their jobs while you were gone" wasn't put in there for nothing.
I highly doubt it was em's idea to scrap that sequal, they weren't going to risk doing 2 mil again.
