I mean...I'm a normal human who has been somewhat appreciative of Em over the years. Certainly not a super fan but I own all his albums.
He has no classics IMO and his music generally ages terribly to give you an idea.
But I truly enjoy Relapse.
My initial reaction wasn't much different, I like the album now though, there are like 4 tracks that are blatant pop-cash grabs or just wack that kinda throw off the theme, you can kinda see how the bonus cuts were kinda cropped in favor of those, groundhog day is one of those tracks that not only fit the theme but was really on point lyrically and even beat wise that should have made the main album without any fuss, but alas.
Like Art was saying in the DEHH review thread in regards to them saying the album is a grower, Relapse was really the first and only Eminem album he didn't really have to listen to in depth to really "get". It's easily em's most....straight away album I would say as far as the vibe and presentation, all while still being experimental. I'd agree with him on that, relapse is a great album to me and it caught me pretty quickly. This is the opposite, and it's not really a sequel like I was expecting/wanted so I had to kinda get over that before I could really see what was going on.
Not saying your initial reaction is the wrong one, this just may not be your shyt but I'd say give it some time. Got some stale production and
hooks but as an eminem fan it's an important album, and is more about closure in regard to the whole MMLP spectacle than it is about anything else.
