Was listening to this song and realised, dude might be the best out of the "technical" MC's bunch

Multis, dope lyrics and flows for days. Doesn't get better than that from a pure MC'ing perspective

Only knock would be his discography, does dude have any incredible albums? I really liked the Preface but can't think of anything else. Granted I haven't given the rest of his albums a proper chance. I do remember his last solo (poison pen?) having some really dope songs like that alienated joint. Think I'll have to revisit it

that could be true but it doesn't lead to the dopest music always...

I can tell when a rapper works more on having ill verses rather than a dope song. different skill sets. Elzhi has been on hits with slum of course so he can find that groove but not often. At some point you wanna hear more than rap gymnastics or rappers flexing skills. I'm a fan and will always be off potential but son has to get well rounded.

Royce was kind of like this for years up until recently then his writing became a lot more solid and fleshed out rather than bar flexing.

I agree with what you are saying, but I think he is more well rounded than you are giving him credit for. He can make dope songs with concepts too. The song I posted is a perfect example. Then he has other songs like:

Talking in my sleep (very creative story telling song)
Can't save ya
Audio Cinematic
Alienated off the new one which I mentioned in my post

Now, can he make a well rounded project i.e. An Album that is more than just a bunch of dope songs put together? I don't know and is what I would like to know:patrice:

He's got a new album dropping on the 25th. Just dropped a single called Jason.

Honestly his peak was Elmatic lyrically. If he could rhyme like that over dope original production he would have a classic imo. Closest was probably Jericho Jackson but I wouldn't ever call it a classic and El is one of my favorite rappers.

The Lupe stans not gon like this...

as a lupe stan, i can pretty much say on a technical/wordplay point, elzhi is better. Lupe has more flows, and takes more risk artistically.

both are equally creative in regards to content and concepts. Like i can appreciate the genuis of Hello!!!!! Just as much as Animal Pharm.

I definitely agree with the bolded, but Ezhi's last 2 projects (Jericho Jackson and Lead Poison) have contained mostly introspective, concept, and storytelling songs. Many of them sad and reflective. In fact a major complaint of Jericho Jackson was that it basically didn't have any straight spitting joints, other than the single.

I think Elzhi makes good music for being such a "technician". The potential was always there on Europass and Preface, etc. But on is last 2 albums he has become a much better songwriter, instead of just an emcee.

Ima need to check it out then. Is it better than poison pen? I really liked that alienated song, discovered it randomly on Spotify, it's a 5/5 song.
I like it better, but largely because I’m a production nerd and I think Khrysis is A: very underrated and B: had been wanting to work with Elzhi for 10 years and had a whole sonic style planned out.

I think the production is better, and I think the lyrics are equally as elite. Only 2 of the 10 Jericho Jackson tracks are “spitter” aka rapping about rapping tracks.
