yeah well you know what standard internet pessimism aside I think that if you took most of the democrats in the state houses, the house and a few in the senate are worth of the title "progressive". The vast majority of them are pretty disgusting corporate clowns and worse still, the more senior you get in the party the more corporate and clownish you get.To bring the pessimism now, I think it's kinda depressing to think that the billionaires have basically exerted complete and total dominance over us as a whole, and are now playing their well timed hand with this union busting. Soon our wages will be lower, prices will be higher, and we will be forced to work longer hours, creating a global neo-feudal state in which one class, with an increasingly decreasing and homogeneous income will perpetually serve an upper class from the cradle to the grave. I'm not trying to sound paranoid but this is really the direction that the world is heading into and I would debate a professor on this matter, because I am so sure that the evidence to suggest this global movement is irrefutable.

In my own personal view I think it's way to late to do anything about the coming plutonomic dominance. They are too good at what they do and they are making the people want it this time around, rather than forcing it on us. The Arab spring was the last hurrah in terms of humanism, we are in for a rough next 4-5 decades. The best thing to do is establish yourself economically while you still can.
