Idk breh i think yall need some new blood
beausejour still playing for chile for FFS lol...
We've been clamoring for new blood since the World Cup ended to be honest. But the players just aren't there.
The next two generations after 2007-2009 have been, for the most part, a complete bust. There aren't players that can replace most of this squad at the highest level. We got a couple of young CBs that should be playing already but managers have been gun shy about messing with the Medel/Jara tandem. It makes no sense because Jara peaked last year and he shouldn't make it to 2018 (if we qualify). Rocco should've been the starting CB of this team since the WCQ started but Sampaoli and now Pizzi are too fukking stubborn.
After that there's absolutely nobody that can make a difference. There's no one worth a damn as a RB and LB besides Isla and Mena. Beausejour keeps playing because he's always fit to play, he's a reliable backup from the bench.
In the middle we are still covered with Charles and Vidal. Gary da gawd should play there but as I pointed out, managers refuse to make him play in his real position because he's the most solid defender we have
No one is even close to replace Valdivia and Mati Fernandez is the definition of soft. Felipe Gutierrez is gonna be Pizzi's go-to-guy for that position but he's not close to Mago's level. Still, if he can consistently play as he did vs Argentina in March then we should be good. Bryan Rabello was supposed to be our next great CAM but he's been a major bust so far.
Strikers is a complete mystery. We have two very promising guys in Castillo and Henriquez but Vargas and Alexis haven't fallen off to the point managers are forced to replace them and they aren't really old to warrant a complete overhaul. With Pizzi it's likely Castillo will overtake Vargas eventually but it's too early to tell.
This is what Sampaoli feared and why he wanted to leave after the World Cup ended. The golden generation of 05-09 is running on fumes and we don't have the players to replace them. It's similar to what happened after 1998.
