MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — A huge pileup in northern Indiana has left at least two people dead and hundreds of motorists sitting in a traffic jam that stretches for miles. According to the Indiana State Police, at least 15 semi-trucks were involved.

The State Police went on to say that I-94 eastbound is shut down and could be closed for hours.

WLS in Chicago is reporting that "there are too many cars to count." In addition to local authorities and state police, surrounding jurisdictions are lending their support as well. Emergency crews and coroners from surrounding communities have been called to the scene.

At the lime of the crash, a band of lake-effect snow was churning out snow in the vicinity of the crash. At times visibility was reduced to a quarter-of-a-mile, winds were gusting up to 20 mph and temperatures were in the low teens.
