im not the only one who says it....and ive had timbs for decades...but the quality of these boots have gone down considerably. I wouldnt dare walk anywhere far or do construction in a pair of the classic iconic timbs, they fall apart outside anything casual. The Timb pros are what the regular timbs used to be like.

You know why that is though, right?

They used to make strictly industrial and hiking/trail shoes and gear before. Non-mountain climbers started wearing the boots for fashion in mid 80s....they started selling them in Dr. Jays and those kind of sneaker stores.NYC really blew up the brand, and it spread to tri state by late 80s. Companies ALWAYS know where their products are being distributed and selling well.
Owner of Timberland enjoyed the extra money, but didn't want the brand associated with young urban Black men
I heard rumor of the article for a few years....stopped buying/wearing the brand once I read it. FUBU is specifically named because of Timberland and other brands at the time implying or saying the same things.
Years later when rap is fully mainstream and bigger companies are cosigning it in ads, Timberland recognizes how influential young Black men are globally and expands their lines of boots and gear to cash in. Because it's being sold for fashion and not function , the quality is garbage. The Timberland pro line is for industrial and hiking use now.

btw, ended my personal boycott of the brand after 2010 earthquake in Haiti, due to the agri. education & tree replanting campaign they've been running there ever since.
