:ohhh: Now I have to look this up...

I mean the studies I found were pretty much outdated(way before I was born), but they pretty much relegated black women in managerial roles to the modern day mammies. They're overall seen as inferior(less threatening), paid considerably less than white males, seen as less of a sexual threat(unattractive)...

All that other stuff is still true- they are still paid much less than white males, they are still seen as unattractive, etc. They are def. seen as more threatening than white women, just less than Black men.

Prison rates for Black men are statistically higher for various reasons, so it's harder to get a high-paying job. More Black women than Black men go onto higher education, so they are more likely to qualify for higher paying jobs. Black men are found more threatening than Black women, and are more likely to be overlooked.

Statistically, I'd still bet that Black women are behind White Women, Asian Women for job security and job payment, due to degree discipline, prejudice, etc...

:skip: Gotta love the social hierarchy in a post segregation America.

On another note this is what makes Barack's presidency even more groundbreaking and influential, though technically speaking he is for all sakes and purposes biracial, which is still largely perceived as being 100% black, throughout most of America...

Any females care to weigh in?

This is a major part of what makes the gap smaller. Combine that with education, the fact that most Black families are single mother homes where there is thus more incentive for the mother to work, and the general disparity in college attendance between men and women of all genders. Throw in a little racial stereotyping, where Black women are perceived as less threatening than Black men.

This pretty much sums it up. Throw in the lack of positive roll models for BM. BW see their mothers working and therefore education, advancement and so on are something they perceive as a possibility. A lot of BM don't even see that in their fathers (if they are around) or the men around them so they have a hard perceiving education, advancement, whatever as something the should desire to attain. On top of that that, many of the Black male "role models" put out in the media/society did not advance through education or tradional jobs.

Obama's achievement say nothing about black Americans. He doesn't have nearly the same background. He's biracial, raised by whites in Haiwaii and accordingly went to a high profile private school then the Ivy League. Both his mother and father attained PhDs which is something most parents never do. Most people with Obama's background end up gainfully employed in a professional field. Obama's story is no more attainable or realistic than any other educated professional's. For whatever reason, people want to idealize Obama but he's just another tea leaf elite liberal. No more, no less.

There is a black partner at a big law firm--I forgot his name--who was raised by in Chicago on food stamps. His story is interesting.

Blaming the women for why black men make less is both pathetic and cowardly.

Men are suppose to lead.

That means we're suppose to achieve regardless of the obstacles put in our way.In a racist society why would u expect a white CEO to employ a qualified well educated black man to work in hid corporate office around white and other non black females?

It ain't gonna happen.

Twenty years ago wealthy black folks should have laid the groundwork by building our own sustaining businesses thus making it easier for this generation to find stable employment.

Today's black men are different then previous generations anyway.Being involved in local and state politics isent cool or taking a stand on a particular issue.

In the Middle East a 6% unemployment brings violent protesters in the streets however in America a 40% Black male unemployment in some cities is no big deal,it's business as usual.

You can't blame the women if the men won't take a stand.
