Most of the highly successful boxers who start at a late age are HWs. Rocky Marciano, Sonny Liston, Hasim Rahman, and Ray Mercer all started in their early 20s I think, and were HWs.
I think Dwight was also in his early 20s when he first began formal boxing in Rahway, and he was a LHW. B-Hop boxed as a kid and then went back to the sport when he was locked up.
Dwight obviously had a real gift for the sport. He had pretty good speed and heavy hands but wasn’t freakish in those areas, and was short. But to learn and improve at such a fast pace like that, he was probably one of the most talented boxers ever.
