It's not a matter of needing one, it's like a gun, having it is good just in case you need it. He's not as massive as Shaq and at some point the athleticism will leave him and his game currently is 100% based around his athletic ability.

As big as Shaq was, his post game, footwork and post moves were WORLDS better than Dwights, and he was the biggest center in the league.

He's not as tall and lanky to be as effective with it as Kareem was (and Bynum could have been)

But just soaking up the wisom and insight should help him out. Maybe learn to be more fluid and patient with his moves.
