The Gambia’s reputation as a tourism destination has taken another battering after the country was exposed as a sex tourism hotspot for European grannies.
The hour-long documentary titled Sex on the beach aired on U.K. television Channel 4 last night and explored female sex tourism in The Gambia.
The documentary which left many U.K. viewers cringing showed older European women boasting about how easy it was to have sex with younger Gambian men.
An older European woman tells the reporter Seyi Rhodes that The Gambia is “paradise …. you can have a different man every night”.
The documentary features Alka, a 32-year-old Gambian man, who has had a string of relationships with older European women.
Alka told the reporter that there were often what he called ‘holidaymakers’ who come to have sex with younger Gambian men then leave.
“It really hurts me. I don’t like it. I am looking for a good relationship,” he said.
Alka, 32, is now married to Francoise, a 68-year-old Belgian woman.
Francoise claimed to have sent Alka the equivalent of £54,000 although he said he never asked for any money.
Alka said he gives her “happiness” and Francoise said he makes her feel like a “new-born baby” with a second chance at life.
