The problem i have with prequel series (both this and House of Dragons) is it feels like technology and culture barely change. Whether its 200 years in the past or 10,000 years.

look how much our own planet has changed in the past 50 years. 10,000 would double the amount of time of human civilization in general and everyone still looks and dresses the same.
As it's already been stated, they're not going to move forward on a tech side for their own reasons.

As far as your analogy, it doesn't pan out because the situations are entirely different. We're all trapped on Earth in a constant struggle for domination and resources, those who are conquered lose or have their native cultures submerged by the victors. Each major player and faction in the Dune universe has at least it's own planet or like Spacers their own sovereign ships. They're under the Emperor but it's a balance.

So imagine if Africans, Europeans, Native Americans, Asians, etc. each had their own planet to govern and make prosperous as THEY chose. The traditional styles of dress, architecture, combat would most likely be deeply revered and emulated. Look at the longer holdouts like China and Japan as isolationist countries, they resisted change and outside interference to the end. Dressing and living as your ancestors did is held in high regard with only slight tweaks for comfort and longevity.

Change is usually something that's forced by outside forces and the ones in Dune are on a different scale and not nearly so overt as our own.

I don’t buy it because even in japan and china there are major cultural differences and even genetic differences depending on the region alone.

i had the same thought but they clearly explain why the Houses purposefully stopped advancing technology. When they did, it literally tried to kill them. It is forbidden.

It just breaks logic because it does the sci fi/space trope of every planet being very homogenous when it reality it shouldn’t work like that.

you got ice planet people, desert planet people, jungle planet people, high society planet people, etc. Where as if people really were to terraform or find livable planets in the galaxy they would most likely be a diverse as earth itself is As far as biomes/resources go.

I don't know how different the houses of atredes and harkonnen could possibly be...especially as time progresses. They are far from homogenous.

I mean per generation, planet, they would naturally change.

game of thrones even does this a little better. You see how the Lannisters used to be scrubby back in the day

fair enough. I accept their reasoning but i hear ya. Baron Harkonnen selling 'Whale Seed' :dame: and furs and shyt might show the progression you're talking about but we'll see.

I’m definitely interested in seeing more of this. Some of the random acolyte girls are trash actresses but I’m intrigued with what’s going on so far.

Solid start, but didn't blow me away in any one aspect. Not much in my Sunday rotation right now, so I plan to keep watching.

The concept of The Voice is one of the more intriguing aspects about Dune to me.

Just hope the schemes and plots can entertain, as prophecy isn't always my favorite thing in fiction.

Travis Fimmel character already bringing the fukkery. Reminded me of his character in Raised by Wolves somewhat.

Pacing a little wonky to you guys? Maybe I'm just a little too used to Denis' deliberate and slow pacing. feels like they're rushing quite a bit. Let it breathe a little, you know.

Also I can't wrap my mind around the 10,000 year gap between this show and Paul Atreides. Do y'all know how much 10,000 years is? Jesus was 2,000 years ago. About 2,000 years more was Moses. A little earlier is Mesopotamia. Go further and it gets fuzzy. Why such a big gap? You're telling me the political entity that is the Empire or whatever stayed intact for 10,000 fukking years?

Saw a few theories in who/what flimmels character could be

Not sure how close their sticking to established dune mythos but this may be the start of / ground work what we will see as coming in dune 3. The focus on his eyes during the kid dying scene is a clue to book readers.

If this is when benne geserit starts than other groups like navigators, face dancers, mentats, etc will most likely begin to emerge as well in pieces. Also the kids father who was giving ships to emperor was in competition with that said group who eventually become players in future dune novels. The allusion to “my father says we are far to strict on this” is another clue that certain civilizations are not following the rules so iykyk i dont feel like potentionally spoiling.

Tho this could all lead to even dune future novels as well even tho were in past. There seems to he an ai presence in it still. Im not too well versed on the whole saga but i wouldnt doubt it.

I see your general point. That’s like us rocking potato sacks now to honor our cavemen ancestors :mjlol: at a certain point (especially thousands of years) nikkas gonna wanna style stuff a little differently. I mean hell look at how our fashion changes every decade :mjlol:

We could be speaking a whole nother language in a 1000 years, lol

I understand why they don’t do it that way but they could easily solve that problem by not using such exaggerated timelines also
