Did you read the article? The whole article is about the dumb ass writer wanting Michelle to fit her own narrow-lensed view of what a feminist should be, which in her mind entails certain duties and lifestyles including social activism.

I agree....but its not much different from any other activist wanting some person in a position of power to cater to their agenda.

I think michelle is playing her role as well as she can. I mean rarely do you get a hilary out of the deal. Michelle doesn't seem like she has political ambitions. I'm ok with that.

She's not an elected official and she probably knows she'd just make Barack's job harder.

...but don't think shes just sitting up there no aware of all the shyt she really wishes she could say...

And other activists wanting someone to cater to an agenda can be unrealistic and off-base as well. But I think this is a far cry from asking Jay Z or whoever to give more of his time and money to black charity because the article calls into question her entire lifestyle, regarding the most personal matters, like career and family. Feminism was supposed to be about giving women the space to where they have the freedom to make a choice of how they want to live. I fail to see how choosing to be a mother primarily when your husband is the fukking President of the United States is setting back the cause of female equality in any way.

Also, it's pretty condescending to sort of scoff at what she is doing in terms of social advocacy. Is there something wrong with addressing child obesity (which disproportionately affects black youth and black young females), working with a program to increase graduate rates, helping wounded vets, and growing a garden. Stay in school, do your homework and eat right. Who can have a problem with that? She wants her to be "edgier" and tackle more controversial issues. That's not really her role right now, for the reasons the writer articulated herself, that it would hinder her husband's presidency, etc.

And also, her chapter isn't fully written. She's got 3 more years as a first lady. When she's done, she'll be in her early 50's and be able to be an ambassador to do whatever she wants.
