DR Congo signs the East African Community treaty, officially joining the block

The Democratic Republic of Congo is officially the East African Community's seventh member. And this after Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi formally signed the treaty to join the community during his visit to Kenya.

For this occasion, both President Uhuru Kenyatta, the current chair of the bloc and the Congolese leader adressed messages of unity.

"By joining the community, the Congolese people do not only want to be satisfied with the benefits of intra-community trade, but they aspire first and foremost to maintain relations based on peace and security for all.", said Felix Tshisekedi, DR Congo President. While, Uhuru Kenyatta , President of Kenya and current Chair of the EAC stressed this addition would _"_strengthen (our) economic muscle and competitiveness, in the continent and as well as globally".

Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and now the DRC are part of the EAC. Kinshasa applied for membership in 2019 and counts on this integration to give him access to better trade deals in the region and free movement of people within the community.

Kenya's President said the DRC's admission means the bloc counts for about 300 million people and a GDP of around 250 billion dollars. DR Congo has vast mineral wealth, including diamonds, gold, copper, cobalt as well as other resources but is undergoing a conflict in the eastern part of its country.

The newcomer also opens a corridor from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean

black nations with mineral wealth are always going thru some mysterious violent conflict that never seems to end, no matter how many UN & NATO troops are deployed.

Le Grand Congo (Kin)
Tshisekedi is overwhelmed. The country has at least 90 million people. No infrastructure. This is the equivalent of those white elephant projects on the continent just for posture.

DRC should focus on building internal infrastructure to link internal pop then after focus on regional integration. The country initially does not need the East African market with the fourth largest pop on the continent behind Nigeria Ethiopia and Egypt.
The population is large enough to create a domestic market for any private enterprise. The wounds are too fresh from the latest 1990s and early 2000s Congo wars for regional integration which implies the free movement of not only goods and services but factors of production (people).

How are you going to regionally integrate with a bloc with two adversarial nations (Rwanda & Uganda) that have been responsible for killing your citizens and the atrocities have been internationally recognized.

c'mon we know what's up....but the devil will deny the truth....apple, samsung etc all earn record profits off the minerals from there at bargain prices. The conflicts are contrived the combatants are funded by foreign powers all in an effort to keep the country from getting fair prices for the minerals.

i can't wait till west africa comes together as a blocc, then the south as a blocc then we form like Voltron as the united nations of Africa then the UNited African Army to patrol borders keep foreign actors from meddling, ohhh what a day that will be i'll be shedding tears like soulja boy.:blessed::blessed:
