Draymond and Baron Davis on why this generation don’t want to be face of the league…. Never thought about it but they might be right 🤔

Same was said after Mike hung it up. At least after Earv and Larry, Mike was established to take the mantle. It took a minute but you had Kobe (AI to a lesser extent) after Mike. Then Bron after Kobe. Add Steph carrying with Bron the last near decade.

I do think Ant could have been that guy. He has the charisma, game, confidence but his baby mama fukkery is too much. Ja could have been too if he decided he didn't wanna be a cosplay gangbanger and Rambo impersonator (latter is not that serious IMO). We all know with Zion. Tatum too bland unfortunately.

Most of the best players in the league aren't American so they're out (Jokic, Giannis, Luka, SGA).

family friendly champion in a heralded sports city getting dismissed as bland... alongside all the other assets... some of the greatest talent the sport has ever seen for christs sake lol

LeBron and steph don't have these massive personalities. when they speak they are pretty mundane. kobe was just as corny as any of these other modern suburban dorks... marketing cleared those chasms (if they should even be categorized as chasms... i think this is straw reaching)

sounds like a bunch of words to say the nba is incapable of connecting with the public in the manner they once were. they got all these generational assets but can't execute... these are marketing problems not the players

... theres an disconnect between the nba and popular culture that probably can't be reinvigorated.... it doesn't seem all that compatible with youth internet culture. now compare that to how the nba trafficked ...damn near hijacked youth culture of the 90s as a comparison! that stimulus gone

Did MJ really have a personality?

Other than being able to walk in the sky which automatically had people looking at him a different way, the examples of MJ's personality is tied to his shoes and commercials, and his ultra competivness. But was this really a great personality?
He does up here

The problem with being the face is it’s not like your safe once you win 1 title. You are expecting to win every year or at least be in the top 4 and anything else is a failure. When you’re not the face you just have to win 1 and your good.

It’s an ultimately pointless conversation because

A) You can’t just name someone face of the league and people run with it - It happens naturally with a variety of factors coming together - Elite production, sustained team success, marketing, media coverage, fan investment

B) As long as LeBron & Steph are in still in the league and playing at a high enough level, the powers that be will never put them on the backburner to promote someone else. It’s just bad for business
