These dudes see the unwanted attention and expectations the “face of the league” brings and they want no parts of that circus, and who can blame them. They can still collect their max contracts and sign their endorsements without that irrelevant title.

People don't really think about it because don't get a chance to really be around celebs

But most of the popular ones are so self centered you'd be disgusted, they really act like children in person but that stuff doesn't get recorded. That need for validation pushed them to be great at their craft

Why do people act like just being "the face of the league" is so easy? You have to have won something first, or at least be in serious contention every year for you to even be considered... So that cuts off a lot of names to begin with. And I'm not gonna go with the "guys don't love the game anymore" cliche that I see a lot of people saying, it's not that in most cases. The league is just more talented than ever, there hasn't been a repeat champion since the 18 Warriors, and we'll see if C's finish the job here soon though.

Long sustained team and individual Success on the court

Showmanship on the court

Interesting personality

I can argue that of Jokic Giannis, Tatum Luka and Ant none of them hitting 2 out of 3 so far

Same was said after Mike hung it up. At least after Earv and Larry, Mike was established to take the mantle. It took a minute but you had Kobe (AI to a lesser extent) after Mike. Then Bron after Kobe. Add Steph carrying with Bron the last near decade.

I do think Ant could have been that guy. He has the charisma, game, confidence but his baby mama fukkery is too much. Ja could have been too if he decided he didn't wanna be a cosplay gangbanger and Rambo impersonator (latter is not that serious IMO). We all know with Zion. Tatum too bland unfortunately.

Most of the best players in the league aren't American so they're out (Jokic, Giannis, Luka, SGA).
