Draymond and Baron Davis on why this generation don’t want to be face of the league…. Never thought about it but they might be right 🤔

These dudes ain’t good enough or have that star power to be face of the league like Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Iverson, Steph, LeBron

Bad take.

Ant has all the personality in the world to do it, and Zion and Ja had the media power behind them. Ie people have comely forgot Ja’s story of getting found and his tournament run. Also thr fact Ja and Zion on thr same AAU team.

Also you underestimate the power of the media machine. Anfernee hardaway is a quiet mfer to this day. But they put the machine behind him. Even early Kyrie was quiet but they put the machine behind him.

The video is right only thing missing is the want-to. These nggas seem like they wont even do engagements

Another low key roadblock is Jordan brand

Jordan brand has a feeling of a ‘team’ brand instead of individual star brand. It’s holding dudes back

Luka, Tatum, Zion, none of them feel like they are pushed to be individual stars even with signature shoes.

Then they also gonna have people like this. You ain’t better than Magic Bird Kobe etc
And there is the issue you will Never be better no matter what you do

Because they played in a tougher era

When I get that talking point I always said

“You should have stopped watching basketball around 2001”

But maybe the model going forward is pushing teams instead of the players

How could you pre pick a face of the league :pachaha:

Biggest issues I see in the difficulty of "creating" a face of the league.

Stan culture died, so nobody is going to be over hyped or anointed, which means they won't have haters that want to see them fail. This kills casual interest. In result only die hards watch the regular season, everybody else will only watch the playoffs.

But the playoffs don't need a "face". It's like March Madness you tune in because it's that time of year not because you're invested in the players

I guess one other point is, the chances of somebody being entertaining to watch and also winning is so extremely low given how good your teammates need to be to compete at a high level. Which leads to LaMelo and Trae Young, Ja etc being loved by one specific demographic, but older generations can't but into a style that's not going to win. So you'll never get everyone on the same page
All the guys I stanned are gone and so I consider myself more of a casual fan now. I just laugh at how people treat their stars now.. I just think about when Boston won. Like you wouldn’t even know it cause people don’t even talk about Boston much around my way. Cats been in the league 7 plus years and fans still be talking about can such and such player get over the hump. I guess I could ask who was/is considered the face of the league after LeBron and Steph?

Old people are talking about a thing that 12 year olds are going to be the ones to determine. We just have to wait and see who they gravitate towards once Bron and Steph bow out.

The league also needs to pick up the slack and create more positive and personal content that offsets the talking heads on ESPN and Fox. Right now the league talk is just filled with negativity, all because it gets the puters putin.

Truth is, in order for the league to have a new “face” LeBron has to retire

Also Adam Silver has spent the last decade pushing international stars

Yeah why would any of these zoomers want to be famous like that; in their day being a top tier famous man just sets you up to get canceled

They want to be just far enough below the radar to make some scumbag moves :leostare:

NOT TRUE.

YOU GOTTA TAKE IT.

NO ONE EVER SAW CURRY
BECOMING A FACE OF THE LEAGUE

AND HE ROSE UP DURING
BRONS PRIME AND CLAIMED HIS SPOT

So then the next big star is gonna be a nikka that nobody will see coming. Thus making this entire conversation worthless.

Think about what you just said. :mjlol:

They just don’t love the game like that. People love to blame the biggger contracts but like B Davis has said when you adjust for inflation, the money isn’t much different from early 2000s salaries. KG got a $120 million contract in ‘97 after two years in the league and we see the passion he still played with.

Loving the game and not wanting the pressure & bullshyt that comes with being the “face” of the league are not mutually exclusive
