Draymond and Baron Davis on why this generation don’t want to be face of the league…. Never thought about it but they might be right 🤔

Probably the dumbest basketball discourse of this season. Face of the league can’t change until LeBron and curry retire, and more than that whoever the person is will naturally rise to the top.

NOT TRUE.

YOU GOTTA TAKE IT.

NO ONE EVER SAW CURRY
BECOMING A FACE OF THE LEAGUE
AND HE ROSE UP DURING
BRONS PRIME AND CLAIMED HIS SPOT

Most of them don’t love basketball; they love what comes with playing in the NBA. There’s a saying that you know you love something if you would pay to do it, not the other way around.

There are many factors to this, but it starts with playing so much AAU that they don’t even get excited to compete anymore. They’ve been playing competitive games since they were 7-8 years old, so it’s been a job to them instead of being fun.

There are outliers like Ant Man who always has a basketball in his hand or will randomly go hoop just about anywhere just because, but it’s not many like that anymore.

Bron and them are the old cats now. There literally should’ve been a “face of the league” picked years ago but I don’t know what happened. Guys get scrutiny like they’re rookies and they be like 5 plus year vets and shyt. I am just waiting to see what happens when Bron and them leaves because there’s not that one guy right now.. maybe that’s a good thing, I don’t know.

How could you pre pick a face of the league :pachaha:

Biggest issues I see in the difficulty of "creating" a face of the league.

Stan culture died, so nobody is going to be over hyped or anointed, which means they won't have haters that want to see them fail. This kills casual interest. In result only die hards watch the regular season, everybody else will only watch the playoffs.

But the playoffs don't need a "face". It's like March Madness you tune in because it's that time of year not because you're invested in the players

I guess one other point is, the chances of somebody being entertaining to watch and also winning is so extremely low given how good your teammates need to be to compete at a high level. Which leads to LaMelo and Trae Young, Ja etc being loved by one specific demographic, but older generations can't but into a style that's not going to win. So you'll never get everyone on the same page

Flawed argument. I can cite athletes part of this "generation" (I use quotes because I`m convinced cats don't know what a generation means/implies) who are the complete opposite of the mentality and personality described. How much did we hear about how unflappable a Jayden Daniels is in his rookie year? Different sport, but if the rhetoric is to be believed, it`s about age. nikkas just started liking video games? Lmao. Athletes are just vastly more aware of the business side of things and have entire PR teams. They're making their bread regardless. They grew up seeing the foolishness attached to being "the face of the league". Why deal with that when you can communicate directly with your fan base via social media while having some modicum of a life?
