Coli drake haters: B-b-b-but streams don’t count

Coli Also when their fav artist does 24k: good number, wasn’t really expecting that much.

:dead:

Where's the lie...

Great number for Drake and I see no logical argument against it, just anger. That number means a shyt ton of people are playing the album over and over. Why is that outrageous? It's the new Drake, everyone is tuning in whether fan or hater.

Maybe you count their entire career spans but aside from that no they didn’t
Jay Z had a number 1 album in some form From 98-07
09
2011
2013

His lowest first week as a solo during that span came in 1998 with vol with 350k. He never had a first week under 350k since 1997.

That’s a crazy stat

This was a different time, and a #1 albums isn’t comparable to the impact of a #1 hit. One denotes fan base the other denotes popularity of an actual song entering cultural zeitgeist. He also had the Def Jam machine behind many of those releases and if you check to see who his albums were up against those weeks you’ll likely see that Jay Z’s team selected great weeks to put his albums out

350K then is a low number but would be a high number in these times. Back then 500K and up first week numbers were basically like hitting 50 HR. 35 Home Runs is a good season but it’s not #1 in the league and Jay Z rarely was

Even when he headlined the Rock Da Mic Tour, his song 99 Problems was his biggest song out at the moment and it wasn’t comparable to the popularity of 50 Cent’s work and that is why 50 Cent top billing on that tour for all of the radio station promos when that tour came to each city. It was almost a surprise that Jay Z headlined. At that time Jay Z was also a much better performer but in that I’m only referring to vocally on the mic

He’s great, and notable in a longevity sense but didn’t ever hit the highest magnitude if stardom via the impact of his singles. The consistency of the support from his fan base is what you’re looking at

Drake as a brand, and the songs released under the Drake moniker represent a marque song factory

Obviously Jay Z > Drake

But Drake has had more mainstream success and that is why he is about to surpass Michael Jackson for the most #1 records by a solo act

A number 1 hit means nothing now. If rappers pre streaming was allowed to chart their entire album day one. Those huge first weeks would allowed a lot of number 1 hits. All those bootlegs wouldn’t never happened being u can get albums for free now
