Of course a black person from France would be upset with this. I’ve been there many times and the french-Africans there are major sellouts. I saw probably two couples in total that were black.

Quick story... I remember when I was in Paris in 2015. There was this cute black woman I met at a bar, who was clearly campaigning for the D. I was literally this close to smashing. I simply said to her “where are your parents from?”
She gave me thelook as if I spat in her face. She said “I’m French.”
I said “I know but where are you from originally. Congo?” Brehs, the look she gave me, you would’ve thought I disrespected her whole family. The look she gave me.
Killed the whole mood. I didn’t even hit her up after that. I was so disgusted by her self hate. That’s how most black people in France are.

White people in France always asking that question to insist on the race of the person on some you're Black, you can't really be French, hence that reaction he got.
