Maybe, but drake moves were worse :yeshrug:

And Jay was actually a much more respected artist
Somewhat. Up until Ether then it pretty much became what we're seeing now. Even in that time Jay was getting clowned for using Big's lyrics more than regular, claiming he was equal or better than Big.

There were a lot of people waiting on his downfall.

Cause during that people most of the people who were paying attention was into hip hop. It wasn’t a bunch of outsiders chiming in like now. Social media and the media basically destroyed rap beef for big artists at this point.
Nah you been involved in too many Nas/Jay threads to believe this. From radio to SOHH to school cafeterias that battle was heavily waged over non rap stuff. Sales, singles, finances, business, relationships, etc. Byron Crawford lmao. That was the start of the “rappers have to be business men to succeed” nonsense.

I agree that there are more outsiders in this battle since rap is more mainstream and both are bigger than Nas/Jay were in 2001 because of that. But let’s not act like we’re weren’t having convos about whether someone was better solely because he had more money, or the wars waged over which single was charting better lol.

I agree, but jay was still much more respected than Drake...Drake is literally not respected by the hip hop community, he admits it himself, and he never made a critically acclaime album, which means he never got respected by critics either.

Which means the rap culture, critics, and jay peers had a lot more respect for Jay than for Drake
