I don’t rank Hit Em Up that high NOT because its not brutal in its own right, but because Biggie never engaged. I would have liked to have seen a full blown back and forth battle between Big and Pac rather than both of them being murdered. Just diss each other and get it over with.

With Ether, Nas actually had to ENGAGE in battle. He had to short circuit Jay’s claims and allegations while making his own more believable and hard hitting. And he strategized and pulled it off flawlessly. It was a REAL fight he won.

Same thing for Kendrick Vs Drake. It was a REAL fight. And Drake got knocked on his ass so hard he’s delusional

I rank Hit Em Up high because of how effective it was as a diss track and it was prolly the first of it's kind. Most known diss track of all time before Not Like Us. I honestly don't rank any track from this battle that high on my fav diss track list. I actually prefer plenty other hip hop battles over this one this felt too corporate for my tastes.
