Drake gets appearance fees from uk to go to their events. That comes directly from ex-players I know. Worldwide Wes set that relationship up between Drake and uk when Cal got there in '09. Since Drake wasn't famous before '09, there's really no way to say who he rooted for in college basketball before then, but I really doubt a kid from Canada grew up as a die hard kentucky basketball fan. Either way, its a smart tactic on Cal's part to play that relationship up to recruits, even if it isn't really authentic.
