Now that I’ve had a good listen to the album. 21 Savage’s verses have really grown on me. He has grown as an artist and his flows have matured and evolved over the years.
Aubrey and Savage really did mix well with each other. You can tell they were in the studio on certain songs bouncing ideas off each other. It would have been nice to hear him more on the album.
However, like Ice said on Budden’s podcast, on a one hour album, 21 Savage is only on 15 min of the entire thing. He made the most of it but you can tell that Drake was mic hogging.
There is literally NO reason for Drake to have FIVE solo joints on this album. “Hours Of Silence” should be considered a Drake solo record cause after 1 short verse from Savage, Drake just completely takes over the entire song.
What I’ve also noticed that if you stream this album constantly Drake will get the most streams on the album compared to 21 Savage. Thanks to those 5 solo records. It was made to have Aubrey be the most “superior” artist..
You can tell Drake was purposely treating 21 Savage as a little brother on this album instead of an equal. If he would have done this album with Future, or Chris Brown, or even Ross (artists he has a good record of doing great songs with), i’m more then positive they wouldn’t have allowed that.
I real collab album is something like WTT, Bad Meets Evil, Black Star, or Distant Relatives. Where both artists are equally the focus of the project and by the end of it you feel like you got the absolute best from both artists.
Although this was a quite entertaining album to listen to, and Drake was rapping at a high caliber. He still hasn’t showed no growth as an artist.
This project was nothing more to stroke his ego once more and makes him feel like he is the undisputed king of rap.
I mean personally for me I don’t mind it. Cause I’ve accepted that this man isn’t gonna mature in his music anytime soon. And plus I’m not gonna get too attached to this album cause I’m sure he is just gonna drop another solo project in the next 6 months that’s going to make you forget about this one.
