I think it's disingenuous to say it's hip hop's "fault"

I think the messages that come OUT of the music/genre are what's damaging. The materialisticness (made up word lol) the misogyny, the blatant lies THESE are some of the things thats REALLY damaging.

The "Eff It" attitude...Yolo...promoting of USING dangerous drugs...promotion of FAST cash (selling drugs or not really "working" for money) I think these topics have gone beyond "just music" and our kids (hell, some adults too) actually try and live this.

Funny, like one poster already said, we can see all kinds of wanton violence and sex in movies or television but most of us know its just entertainment (although that line is being blurred more and more) No other genre of music hurts the listeners (or makes them emulate) more than rap/hip hop...thats a damn shame

These rappers ain't nothing but puppets used by their masters to promote their agenda, if it wasn't Rick Ross or Lil Wayne it would be another lost black kid from the hood. Hip-Hop isn't really the one to blame here but those who control it.

Wow. I guess Curtis Mayfield was a cancer to his genre too

Word.

People are ignoring a ton of factors here. Most hiphop now is trash, but I love the culture... i listen to rap before meetings presentations n shyt... helps nikkas get thru a CAC filled world.

The reason hip hop is being ruined (cac) is the reason why I love it and y it was probably created.....situations.

Movies and video games have always been a bad comparison. Those are accepted as modes of fantasy. Rap "music" is unique in that it professes to be based on the reality of the streets, and then the madness of the streets proceeds to be glorified.
Doesn't matter when the street really does have drugs, violence and every other nikka you know with a felony. The jews that control it may be making a mockery of the situation that non-jew CAC created for blacks... but still.... it's somewhat based in reality. Those types of nikkas were popular in the hood long before rap was created because of our destructive mentalities and situations.

we have other types of hip hop and black music that show other parts of black culture, but that's not what the world is spending Billions on right now.

Nobody is denying that these things do exist in every hood USA, and nobody is saying that artists shouldn't be bringing it to light in the music....but they shouldn't be glorifying it.

The "I'm just reporting what's going on the streets" excuse that all rappers defer to ad-nauseum conveniently absolves them of any responsibility they may have in encouraging certain segments of the youth, poor black youth in particular, to be content with their condition and embrace it as an "identity" rather than transcend above it and create a newer, stronger one. People put forth arguments like well why isn't Jay Z a role model? Isn't he a CEO and a successful business man? Isn't he cool wit the President? Jay Z is an exceptional example of what becoming a hip-hop super celebrity MAY get you, materialism wise, but should he really serve as a template to follow? An ex crack dealer turned rapper who got lucky by making it in rap? Same with 50, etc.

Kids of other races, and I'm an example, who grew up immersed in the culture also had the luxury of at the same time identifying with a culture removed from American decadence and it's bloody history. Unfortunately because of slavery, black american youth don't have that. Yeah you can refer to African roots and all that, but Rap/Hip-Hop is something that nobody can really dispute belongs to them and them only since it is literally a byproduct of their opppression. They don't look at these rappers the way I or some other non-black or non black-american kid did/does. Rap is a product of the unique experience of black american struggle, so therefore black artists in hip-hop should take ownership of a culture that is THEIRS - instead of helping to promote this "hip-hop is universal" garbage narrative that has Justin Beiber telling ****** jokes, teenage boys in the hood dressed like girls, and white hipster fakkits questioning Troy Ave's street credibility and instead use it as a tool to promote positive interests that will benefit them. So far they are failing to do so, as far as I can see, for what looks like selfish reasons. I know this is easier said that done but I don't think anybody would dispute that this should be the ideal.

I'm not one of these "hip-hop culture is trash" people, because I think hip-hop can potentially be the opposite of that. Unfortunately for right now though, it's dumpster status.

the problem is some people don't know how to decipher entertainment from reality.

you can enjoy rap music that promote negative themes yet not condone or participate in the lifestyle that is promoted. the same as people who enjoy movies or video games that promote negative themes.

That's where shytty schools and a lack of educational funding come into play.

nah thats where these impoverished broken homes come to into play.

These.

most rappers are either fantasy or outrageously exaggerated characters.

i'm supposed to believe rappers making millions of dollars legitimately are out in the streets catching bodies? :mjlol:

i'm supposed to believe rappers are drug kingpins moving kilos of cocaine daily yet the fbi doesn't even acknowledge these dudes? :mjlol:

i'm supposed to believe eminem is a serial killer who rapes his mother and kills his wife? :mjlol:

these dudes don't even take their own selves seriously so why should i? :heh:

If you do a poll and ask a lot of black americans: Who would you rather be? Famous with celeb glitz and notoriety OR being known as a black intellectual with no glitz???????

Majority will choose "the former", I can guarantee that. They know all the pitfalls and everything, they still don't care though.

bytches ain't lining up to suck cornell west's dikk like that, son. get the fukk outta here. post on a hip hop site and be anti-hiphop? what sense does that make? i think most people would choose fame over brains regardless of race. you're an ass.
looks like somebody's confused on what "the former" means :mjlol:
