There is always a lane for charlatans. They make one.
Modern medicine isn't perfect, no one says it is. We learned a lot of things about how the body works with poor ethics and outright atrocities, like the Japanese unit 731 and the ob/gyns experimenting on slave women.
When "alternative medicine" works and it's efficacy can he repeadedly tested with controls, it gets called "medicine".
Traditional medicine can be good at prevention and general health, but sucks at fixing things when they break, and has some truly insane and ignorant notions about how the body works. If I start going into septic shock, I'm not going to the local herbalist...

Western Medicine IS what we make it out to be.
However we live in a country where people believe in healing crystals, magical
unquestionable sages/gurus and just a general disregard for science.
This extends to many other facets of American Life.
