Dr. James Andrews told USA Today that he did not clear Robert Griffin III to return to the Washington Redskins' Dec. 9 game against the Baltimore Ravens after he sprained his right knee.

The issue resurfaced on Sunday against Seattle, when Griffin came up limping after a first-quarter play, but did not miss any playing time. During Seattle's ensuing possession, Griffin and Dr. Andrews went into a small hut that is on the playing field but out of view of spectators. The Redskins issued no statement about a possible injury, and Griffin returned to the field after Washington regained possession.

Andrews, who was on the sideline during the Dec. 9 game, said Redskins coach Mike Shanahan bypassed him for advice in that earlier game and sent Griffin back into the game for four plays before Griffin came out for the remainder of the game last month.

"(Shanahan) didn't even let us look at him," Andrews said. "He came off the field, walked through the sidelines, circled back through the players, and took off back to the field. It wasn't our opinion. We didn't even get to touch him or talk to him. Scared the hell out of me."

Shanahan told reporters the day after the game that he did get the OK from Andrews to allow Griffin to re-enter the game.

"He's the one that gives me that information," Shanahan said. "It's way over my head."

After Griffin left the game for good late in the fourth quarter, his replacement, Kirk Cousins, helped the Redskins beat the Ravens in overtime.
Griffin missed one game before getting cleared to play.
Andrews said that he made the decision to take Griffin out after he re-entered the Dec. 9 game.

"I'm the one that shut him down that day, finally," Andrews said. "I've been a nervous wreck letting him come back as quick as he has. He's doing a lot better this week, but he's still recovering and I'm holding my breath because of it.

"He passed all the tests and all the functional things we do, but it's been a trying moment for me, to be honest with you."

Griffin wore a knee brace during Sunday's NFC wild-card playoff game against the Seahawks. He has worn a brace since he returned Dec. 23.

IF you read RG3's lips a few mins ago, he told, Shanahan "Nah, it's not you coach"

I'm sure RGIII had the option to play or not. He chose to play whether or not he should've been sat down.

Shanahan wanted to get paid, but Goodell might fine his ass anyways. Players are suing the NFL for millions about the lack of player safety and your star player missed 4 plays on a nasty looking injury and didn't see the doctor?
