Don't sleep on Stephen Curry making the transition into an elite PG in '12/'13

Will Curry make the transition into being an elite PG this season?

Stephen Curry Mix [HD] - The Warriors - YouTube

He has great floor-visibility, slept-on (on the verge of being potentially-great) play-making ability and creating for others/passing, high ball IQ, equally-efficient spotting up and shooting off the dribble, underrated touch around the rim, great at spacing the floor, has the mental tools to run a fast-paced fluid offense; both in transition and half-court.

He has all the tools that make an elite PG.

He's averaging 6 assists in his career; he averaged 6 last year splitting play-making duties with Ellis (who also averaged 6 at GS last season) - he's got the keys now, so his usage and APG should go up. I'd say he's looking at around 8, give or take. In order for him to be elite, he doesn't need to be elite in all those categories, it's how he balances them all out and incorporates them into the offense. He's already got great passing, vision and ball-handling ability. He's one of, if not the best PG at spreading the floor; great in swing-ball situations/curling-out. He doesn't need to be effective with the ball in his hands all the time and has a great-understanding of where shooters need to be positioned on the floor due to actual-experience. He's arguably the best shooter at his position (+ the league) - which opens up EVERYTHING, the offense will have x-less % of being stagnant and losing its momentum/fluidness; defenses won't have the luxury of over-compensating on P&R/hedges/outlets/RTTR/cut situations etc etc. He basically breaks the 4on5/help-defender schemes that defenses implement on teams that have incompetent shooter(s) at the 1.

With usage-limitations and injuries, he hasn't developed the awareness and consistency to work and break-down half-court defense-situations, to where he needs to be at an elite level - this season (if he stays healthy) I can see him getting over that hill.

The piss colored nikka has no ankles. Hes gonna miss atleast half the season, with some assortment of soft nikka injurys. Plus he plays no Defense, N even worse he plays for Golden State so whatever he does nobody's gonna see nor care

Move on nikka

so he scoring like crazy playing off the ball with Jarrett Jack, and that validates him as a top point guard now?

I get what you are saying, but Curry is at his best with Jack on the court setting things up for him.

I could've swore "elite" meant like the top 3 at your position in the NBA and Steph Curry isnt close to being there yet.

What's with yall hyping this boy up like this? He's a great shooter.....but he's not an elite PG:whoa:

Naw, there's more elite PGs than three. I don't think you can put a number-rank on how many players at each position are elite. I think it's safe to say, he's an elite PG.

I need to see more.

He needs to have at least another season at this level before calling him elite imo:yeshrug:

Normally I'd agree with you - if this was his rookie/sophomore season, but he's been playing along these lines for the last four seasons. Only difference is - this season he's had the keys to run the team, not been sharing playmaking duties with Monta and has stayed healthy. It's not like this season is a fluke, his play has alluded to being elite for some time.

We will find out if he's elite during the playoffs...When the game slows down and gets more physical and every posession matters...Elite players aren't established before April...I'm rooting for him because I love watching them play, so hopefully they can make some real noise...

Yeah because Chris Paul got his elite status from those DEEP playoff runs:troll:

CP played in 23 playoff games in his first 3 seasons and has a playoff career average of 11.4 assists per game (second only to Magic all time)

Steph has played in 0...

If you wanna crown him then crown him..I'm just gonna wait..If you're right you get to make another "I told you so" thread and @ mention me...

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree wholeheartedly that Curry needs to back it up in the playoffs.
