It's crazy cause he came into this league as a defensive guy. There's no excuse for what Russ put on tape on the defensive end last year. It was pathetic. For as bad as he was offensively, he was WORSE defensively.

I disagree that keeping him is worse
The Lakers are not going to contend this year
If they make it to the playoffs they will be out in round 1
There's only 1 year left on his deal, why not risk it, hope that he plays better and looks good, get his value up again and move him at the deadline for some really good assets.
Worst case he stinks it out and is gone after the season.

Trading him now will almost assuredly net you back a horrible contract in return and I don't see any use in cutting him rather than just letting him play the year out and see how it goes

Keeping him now makes building out the rest of the roster ten times harder. For example if you trade him to the Thunder and get under the cap you can have a high chance at getting an impactful role player like Mo Bamba or Dante divancizo because you would have the full MLE and 4.5 million BAE.

You could probably get a dude like Josh Jackson for the BAE.

Anything is better than Westbrook.
