This isn't a unique situation. Big cats that are reared from birth are usually done so with a handlers who has a family dog. They do it so the cat can learn social ques and body language as well from the dog. It's not that rare. I have no clue why they are acting like it's because it's a cheetah. They have done this with lions, tigers and bears as well.
