I had never heard that black cat bad luck nonsense until i moved to the United States. Definitely a european things. In haiti there are things they say about black cats but it's voodoo related and supposedly there are certain spells or powers that can be activated by their eartips.

Thus why in Haiti you may often find black cats with the very tip of their ears cut off.
