from my perspective, the serpent is the tongue

such that we are aware of the words we speak at the point of birth from our mouths but our awareness of what our own words influence on their way through reality (and likely back to us) is poorly understood

but if you take Genesis 1 as context, it would mean spoken words from God alone created AND defined reality as we know it. So it's probably best we craft our words with the context that it can/could create

but then again one of the more interesting statements in the Bible is about Nahash. "Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field the LORD God had made"

how subtle is subtle :jbhmm: once again the tongue is arguably the most subtle beast in existence :manny:

Subtle or beautiful?

Ezekiel 28:

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

You noticed in the bible it speaks about "lust of the flesh" quite often. Thats how satan influence you. Through vain fleshly desires. His words usually puts focus on self and mankind need to fulfill the desires of the flesh.

1 John 2:16

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world

indeed beautiful and subtle but like an octopus tentacles we have to rule over it (to me, for one reason or another "became" Adams wife)

this is why Peter's dialogue with Jesus is some of the most profound in the Bible as its telling. How can a rock be both offensive and foundation?

Matthew 16:20-24

20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

we are either called to forgive or condemn, its a teetering problem that is on the tip of every tongue

No doubt!!! :wow:

Peter ran around with Jesus, listening to him teach, for 3.5 years and didn't hear a word he said. And Peter was just concerned about Jesus and protecting him. Yet he was called satan. Not because of his actions, but because Peters words was against everything Jesus thought Peter understood from their interactions over the course of 3.5 years. The saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" rings true here. :pachaha:

But like you mentioned, the "tongue is a unruly evil" You can use it to create or destroy.. So yeah, we are gods, but because of our evil ways and wicked tongues, were going to die like men.

Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Your presentation has to be real crafty to get people to see/hear certain things. But consider this:

1 Corinthians 3:6-9

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building

Its a spiritual/energy thing. Sometimes people preach the bible as if they want to see that person repent that very moment. You can't choke people with doctrine. You have to feed them a little and then maybe that person will get a little more someplace else down the road.

And Paul had to say the same to the Corinthians here:

1 Corinthians 3:1-3

3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

You can't beat people over the head with the bible.. You do more harm than good.

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
No, Psalm 82 is talking about 'supernatural beings' (elohim) and John 10 is comparing the 'fate' of poor human 'judges' to them saying they will 'die like men'.

Psalm 89 (6-7) makes 82 impossible to be referring to human beings.
