Does Cosby get enough credit for saving NBC in the late 80s and early 90s?

A 27.8 Nielsen Rating for the Cosby Show.

I don't even know if those numbers translate, but I just googled the Sunday Night Football game on NBC between the Cowboys and 49ers (October 27th) and that got a 10.9 rating.

The Cosby Show being nearly 3 times as popular as a Sunday Night Football game is hard to imagine these days.
