He got pops for the sporadic cool spots that popped up. He got nothing that compares to post Reigns. Outside of that, the crowd wasn't really rocking with him like that. They knew he was getting pushed because of Vince's fetish and were scared he would start running through all their "more deserving" faves.

See: Sami Zayn and why he was brought up in the first place. Also, a lot of heels who aren't supposed to draw cheers get cheered. Hell, people hate Reigns so much they pretended like Braun was a face the entire feud. I'm glad you brought up the Kalisto thing...because that didn't happen until after he already started feuding with Roman.

I've mentioned him getting reactions occasionally, but he certainly wasn't getting big reactions until he started fighting the big dog ironically. I have no problem conceding to proof of all these big reactions.

I'll give you the Big Show superplex, but that's a guaranteed reaction and I think that also happened after him and Reigns started.

I mean, they had Nia Jax squashing jobbers too. But she was marred by the horrid booking the RAW women's division suffers from

I agree with the others. The Roman feud is what really set it off for him. Before that I don't think many people were into him "like that," Then he feuded with Roman and people started paying close attention to his character.

With that being said, the little things like others said about beating people up with Christmas trees and the things he says really add to his character and helped him get over even more with or without Roman. Also he made watching a Big Show match fun to watch again. Last time I was into a Big Show match was with Roman.

I liked him last night especially with Lesnar. Braun and Lesnar got great chemistry too. Braun is not showing any fear with Brock and Brock is playing well into the, "Wow, this guy might be THE ONE to beat me." I like the way Brock sells for him and it says a lot Brock is doing that for Braun. It's one of the few times in the last several years Brock actually gave a damn about a feud. You can tell he likes working with Braun.

Don't forget that Mark Henry convinced Vince that this guy has "it."

Was basically my original point. Braun was doing stuff to be noticed and get reactions way before Roman. I instantly knew Braun wasn't the generic WWE big man the first time he returned and cut a promo after squashing some jobber (was it Ellsworth??). He had a presence right then, sounding like a 350+ pound guy should, and carried himself like a big deal right off. Of course Roman helped him, he's a main event guy who gets great reactions and has been for 3+ years, that's obvious. But Braun was being noticed way before during the Sami feud. He was garnering good reactions with Sami as he was a big face the crowd loves, and Braun was legit boo'd. Once Reigns came along, that just ramped things up and split reactions. People are acting like Braun was Mordecai before the Reigns feud then suddenly ":ooh::ooh::ooh:" :mjlol:

I feel your analysis is too vague on how they slowly build Braun much like they built up the Shield. Unlike Ryback, Braun is pretty much one of a kind worker and a dying breed in this business.

A lot of Braun build of squashing opponents was kept simple, but they did many engaging storylines with him over the course of last year and a quarter when he officially became a singles competitor. His character shines through on the Mic and making him a standout with his interaction with Foley. I would argue that those squash can only build him up so much, but it gave him TV time to establish himself and borrow him more time to be the skilled single competitor that he is know. He needed to cook on the house circuit and learn the craft. Which he really did. In between his time between lifting, dieting, traveling/ performing and training. It's pretty remarkable how he was able to understand psychology so quickly and have some amazing pristine timing. Ryback never had those qualities. All he had was a shytty clothesline, corny catchphrase, and reputation for injuring people/ running his month.

He was showcased great at Survivor Series where it felt like he had actually became spotlight ready and they went forward with pushing him against Sami Zayn. The Sami Zayn booking is probably one of prime example of the excellent booking in his favor. They make him look a monster, but still keep him grounded. Sami Zayn beating Braun in his first PPV single match with a real opponent by time limit is a touch more wrestlers need to keep them grounded and not completely ruin the suspension of disbelief. I feel that new wrestlers completely pull me out of the product when they force a winning streak instead of good matches. When Ryback finally moved on to roster talent... he was still squashing opponents. I hated it. Braun put on great matches with roster talent as soon as he got the green light.

He has the look, voice( Even with his limited range), and great innovative big man style in tandem with a great storyline booking that really suits his character. Braun has easily been the best booked wrestler of the year, most improved male wrestlers, and probably a shoe in for participating in program of the year.

Totally unrelated, but I was tickled pink to see that a guy we watched at a charity show in my hometown got squashed by Braun last year.

He's actually a fantastic little worker, and held his own against Chavo Guerrero Jr.
